Nepali Mela 2016

The Embassy of Nepal, London and Tamudhee UK jointly organised Nepali Mela UK 2016 on Sunday, 28th August, 2016 at Kempton Park in London. Preserving and promoting Nepalelse culture, tradition, and pride in UK was the main moto of the event.

The opening ceremony was commenced by the chief guest of the event- Charge dí Affaires a.i., Mr. Sharad Raj Aran, Hon. Dr. Ganeshman Gurung, Member of Parliament of Nepal, Mr. Bhagwanji Chauhan, Deputy Mayor of Brent Council, President of Tamudhee UK- Mr. Ram Chandra Gurung by lighting Panas and ribbon cutting.

Speaking at the event, the Charge dí Affaires a.i., Mr. Sharad Raj Aran thanked Tamudhee UK for their great effort in showcasing, preserving and promoting diverse Nepalese culture, tradition, costumes among mass audiences. Likewise, he also emphasised and appreciated great role of the Mela in integrating Nepalese communities in Britain. He also took an opportunity to thank all the participants and audiences for their valuable presence at the Mela.

Hon. Dr. Gurung and Cllr. Mr. Chohan thanked to the organiser and appreciated for organizing such great event to promote and preserve the Nepalese traditional values and cultures in UK.

There were around 30 UK-based Nepalese organisations who participated in traditional cultural Jhanki and dances marching this year. The Mela gave them the opportunity to showcase their unique colourful attire, dances, culture, values, customs and traditions. Likewise, five youth band also performed their musical show.

The Ambassador Cup which is one of the important aspect of Nepali Mela was won by the Lamjung Samaj UK. The cup was presented by Charge dí Affaires a.i., Mr. Sharad Raj Aran.

More than 8000 people were present in this year. Many Ambassadors and Representatives from diplomatic missions were present in Mela. Deputy Mayor of Ealing, Councillors and other high dignitaries were present in Mela.

Rt. Hon, Saddiq Khan, Mayor of London, apologising for not being able to attend, praised the effort of Nepali Mela organiser in promoting and preserving Nepalese diverse culture through his video message.
