National Day 2016
The Embassy of Nepal, London organised a programme with grand reception for celebrating the National Day of Nepal on Tuesday, 20th September 2016. The National Day is being celebrated to mark the promulgation of new Constitution of Nepal which took place on 20th September in 2015.
Speaking at the occasion, the Charge d Affaires a.i., Mr. Sharad Raj Aran highlighted Nepal as land of Mt. Everest, birthplace of Lord Buddha, Pashupatinath Temple which is rich in natural, cultural and religious heritage. Focusing on long-historic bicentenary relationship between Nepal and UK, Mr. Aran also recalled the successful Nepal visit of His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Harry on March 2016. In addition, he also presented his great compliments to UK for their massive humanitarian and funding support last year for recovering damage caused by Nepal Earthquake 2015. Emphasising on Nepal-UK relationship, he also mentioned that around 2600 Nepalese are currently working in Brigade of Gurkhas in UK.
Ms. Laura Clarke, Head of South Asia Department from Foreign and Commonwealth Office, mentioned that around 80,000 Nepalese people reside in UK whereas around 30,000 British people visit Nepal for Tourism. She also made audiences aware about yearly Chevening Scholarship that UK provides to Nepal. She informed that 13 Nepalese has been awarded Chevening Scholarship this year in UK top universities. She also expressed her gratitude to Nepal as it is the 6th largest country providing armed forces to UN peacekeeping mission for over centuries. With all support and cooperation between Nepal and UK in past and present, she expressed her hope and assurance that this historic-deep relationship will go further in future.
All the diplomatic staff of the Embassy together with spouse greeted and welcomed the guest at their arrival.
The representative from FCO, Home Office, Protocol, Ministry of Defence (MOD), Ambassadors, High Commissioner and other Diplomatic Mission representatives, Mayors and Councillors, Nepalese Media Personalities, representative from Foreign and Nepalese organisations and many other prominent peoples of around 200 were present at the Celebration.
The programme was ended with the reception where typical Nepalese foods were served by the Everest Inn Group.
